What Is Included in a Shed Slab Quote?

When you get a shed slab quote, it's worth understanding what's typically included — and what might be quoted separately — so you can compare prices properly and avoid surprises.

What's typically included

A standard shed slab quote will usually cover:

Formwork

Setting up the timber or steel boards that frame the slab to the correct shape, dimensions and level.

Steel mesh reinforcement

Laying the reinforcing mesh inside the form before the pour. Some jobs require additional reo bar — this may be included or quoted separately depending on the scope.

Concrete supply

The ready-mix concrete delivered by truck, or bagged concrete for smaller jobs. The quote should specify the thickness and strength (MPa) being used.

Pouring and spreading

Placing and spreading the concrete within the form.

Finishing

Screeding and finishing the surface to a flat, level result. The type of finish (broom, smooth, etc.) can usually be specified.

Curing

A curing compound may be applied to help the concrete cure correctly, particularly in hot or windy conditions.

What might be quoted separately

Not every quote covers everything. Depending on your site, these items may be additional:

  • Excavation or ground levelling
  • Fill material (gravel or crushed rock base)
  • Removal of existing concrete, structures or debris
  • Extra labour for difficult access (wheelbarrowing concrete long distances)
  • Cut-off sawing or control joints for larger slabs

When requesting a quote, it helps to be upfront about site conditions. The more detail you can provide, the more accurate the quote will be — and the less likely there are unexpected additions later. See our guide on preparing for a shed slab for what to check before you ask.

What helps a concreter give an accurate quote

  • Approximate slab length and width in metres
  • What the slab is for
  • Your suburb
  • Whether the ground is flat, sloped, muddy, cleared or unprepared
  • Whether there is easy vehicle access from the driveway, street or gate
  • A photo of the slab placement area
  • A photo of the access path from the driveway or street
